Saturday, November 9 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm on the Town Square Dickens of a Christmas will recreate an atmosphere of the Victorian Era during the holiday season. The event is in conjunction with the Hernando Chamber of Commerce Christmas Open House. Our local businesses will be decked out to the hilt in Christmas decor, and oh yes, they will have lots of fabulous specials. Some will have horderves for shoppers to enjoy while they prepare for the holiday season. A great event to shop local for the holiday season!

Visitors can enjoy our first Christmas farmers market with holiday wares. The Lion's Club will have their famous pecans and stop by for a freshly brewed coffee, hot cocoa or cider by Coffee Central Squared, as well as other delightful treats from our local farmers market vendors.

The DeSoto County Museum will have carriage rides with a tour guide dressed in period clothing who will talk about the Victorian era in Hernando. Dickens characters will be walking and singing in the local businesses and historic downtown to bring joy to the season, thanks to the DeSoto Family Theater and Northwest Mississippi Community College. You may even meet some of the dancers from the Nutcraker with Ballet DeSoto!

Northwest Mississippi Community College and DeSoto County Career Tech West will delight visitors with Christmas food demonstrations, children will meet Santa Clause in the courthouse, make a Christmas ornament, decorate cookies and get a free children’s book from Excel By 5.

For $20 take home a beautiful handmade Christmas mailbox swag by participating in a class with the Hernando Civic Garden Club. All materials, including natural elements will be provided. Call the Hernando Chamber to register: 662-429-9055.

The DeSoto Arts Council will host local artists displaying unique items at their building near the clock tower.

We can’t forget about our furry loved ones! The Hernando Animal Shelter will have a special Santa (Santa's helper) for family pets to take their Christmas photo. Each photo is $15 and benefits the Hernando Animal Shelter.
