The City of Hernando is now accepting applicants for the position of Code Enforcement Officer. This position will report directly to the Director to Planning.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with City Codes and ordinances; investigate calls from citizen with neighborhood complaints; inspect areas for cleanliness; issue citations for un-cleanliness; report abandoned vehicles to be removed; inspect signs throughout the city for size and visibility; recommend condemnation for unsafe properties; enforce sewage violations throughout the city
Assist in the issuance of building and occupancy permits; complete plan reviews and examine plot information; examine plans and property for compliance with all building codes and zoning ordinances; calculate permit fees for the project
Assist the building official in the performance of all inspections as required by all building codes; perform inspections on concrete, slabs, framework, rough-in and black-in; explain inadequacies to clients and provide direction as to how errors can be corrected; perform full inspections as needed
Answer complaints, taking all needed information from complainant; perform a site inspection; write code violations as needed
Assist with code enforcement; work with owners, as needed to attain compliance; follow up to see if compliance has been met; review and make final recommendations on all matters of discipline; provide technical assistance to the Zoning and Planning Commission
Perform other duties as necessary and assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or analyze data
Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations
Must have the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference descriptive, and/or advisory data and information
Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and material of moderate weight (12-20 pounds)
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals
