The City of Hernando Building Department strives to provide inspection and review services during project development and construction.  The services provided include plans examination for code compliance, permit issuance, and construction inspections for new and various repairs and additions.

 Building Codes

The City of Hernando has adopted the 2012 International Building Code for the construction and remodeling of all buildings.  This includes Commercial Buildings, Industrial Buildings, Churches, Schools, and Houses.

Contractor Licensing

The following construction activities require a building permit.

  • Building
  • Accessory Structure (Sheds, garages, pool house)
  • Electrical
  • Grading
  • Mechanical
  • Plumbing
  • Sign
  • Swimming Pool
  • Fence

 

Residential Permitting

Applicants must submit the permit online at My Government Online (www.mygovernmentonline.org).  Review by the Building will occur upon receipt of the application.  Once approved, the applicant will be notified of applicable fees.

 

Commercial Permitting

Certificate of Development

Prior to applying for a commercial building permit, all projects must submit for Certificate of Development approval through the Office of Planning.  Certificate of Development review provides a means to ensure a proposed project meets the requirements of the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Design Standard Ordinance prior to construction plan review.  The Certificate of Development Application must accompany the online application at My Government Online (www.mygovernmentonline.org).

 Building Permit

After Certificate of Development approval, a project can be submitted for building permit approval.  The applicant must submit the project online at My Government Online (www.mygovernmentonline.org).  Review by the Building Official, Fire Inspector, and Public Works Department will occur upon receipt of the application. All plans must be uploaded with the building permit application through My Government Online.
